We were the first car manufacturer to use disc brakes on production cars and braking remains an aspect of the car we care about passionately. Our brake pads and discs undergo up to 12 months of meticulous design and development before approval. Attributes such as dimensional tolerances, force tolerances, weight, and material compound are carefully considered to overcome issues such as quick brake fade, low wear life, grinding, squeaking, and unbalanced braking.
Genuine Jaguar brake discs and pads are developed to meet stringent targets grouped into five criteria, each one involving its own unique tests.
Our no-compromise attitude to braking performance can be seen in the tests we run at the renowned Nurburgring ‘Nordschleife’ racing circuit in Germany; brake discs and pads must comfortably handle at least 22 laps of the gruelling 20km circuit.
Genuine brake pads and discs are tested in various temperature extremes, ranging from the scorching 120°F heat of Death Valley California, to the sub-zero arctic climates of northern Sweden.
Our brake pads and discs are stretched to the limit on steep winding mountain roads in the Alps. These roads are tackled with fully weight laden vehicles to ensure that braking remains stable and steady throughout.
Jaguar brakes run through the industry standard AMS Brake Fade test. The vehicle rapidly accelerates up to 100kph, then brakes as hard as possible until the vehicle comes to a stop. This harsh procedure is repeated non-stop for a total of 12 cycles.
Jaguar brakes are capable of handling prolonged and strenuous braking that pushes disc and pad temperatures to over 500°C, without compromising performance. Even after being subjected to these incredible temperatures, Jaguar brake discs and pads must remain strong enough to hold the handbrake on a sharp 18% incline.
EXHAUSTS - THE UNMISTAKEABLE SOUND OF A JAGUAR
The Jaguar exhaust system is purposely designed to deliver a sporting roar when accelerating on the open road, while remaining more refined while cruising. Months of development go into delivering the optimum tonal range, commensurate with legal requirements.
The breathtaking sound of the exhaust system is matched by its material specification.
Stainless steel is selected specifically to withstand exhaust gas temperatures in excess of 700ºC, and give the entire exhaust system a robust and durable structure. During the development and approval process, a Jaguar exhaust system is subjected to over 1000 hours of harsh testing on specialist dynamometer test rigs that simulate a variety of challenging driving conditions. Hundreds of hours alone are spent testing the exhaust system near the maximum speed of the engine, often at levels beyond those encountered in normal use.
The development process also ensures that the engine management system of a Jaguar is specifically calibrated and tuned to match the characteristics of the exhaust. The end result is optimum performance and fuel economy; benefits that may not be seen in an exhaust system of inferior quality or one that isn't calibrated to Jaguar's high standards.

Jaguar genuine parts Alloy wheels use a unique Aluminium and Silicone alloy compound that provides optimum strength and durability. Detailed attention to quality engineering continues into the production phase, where all genuine jaguar alloy wheels are subjected to a detailed X-Ray for crack detection. Even if there is a minuscule crack in the rim, the no-compromise attitude to structural integrity means that the wheel is rejected.

An intensive development programme is undertaken before approving a genuine Jaguar alloy wheel. The alloy wheel is subjected to a punishing 12 week dynamic corrosion test. This analyses resistance of the alloy wheel to corrosive fluids such as cleaning products, brake fluid, fuel, and other liquids varying in acidity and alkalinity. Further to this, alloy wheels are also subjected to thousands of hours of salt spray tests and UV (Ultra-Violet) light tests; both tests are specifically set up to monitor durability in harsh conditions.
In one of the more dramatic tests, the Pendulum Impact Test simulates kerb strike impacts against the alloy wheel at its weakest and strongest point. The alloy wheel is closely monitored to check for optimal structural behaviour that provides optimal safety and shock absorption for passenger and vehicle.

FUEL FILTERS - PROTECTION FROM UNSEEN IMPURITIES
There is always a risk that the fuel going into your vehicle may contain particles such as dirt, sand, or rust. Some of these can be measured at micron levels (one micron being the equivalent of one thousandth of a millimetre). If a fuel filter has poor filtration levels, these abrasive particles get through and can come into contact with the fuel injectors and surrounding components, potentially affecting power, emissions, noise, and fuel economy.
These variables are critical to your Jaguar. A fuel filter of inferior quality and composition could also accelerate wear and damage to the fuel injectors and fuel pump; something that could become a complicated and costly problem.
Jaguar offers genuine fuel filters that provide a high level of protection for petrol and diesel engines against corrosive and harmful products. The genuine Jaguar fuel filters developed for our diesel engines, for example, are designed to be 93.5% efficient at blocking particles in the 3-5 micron range; literally filtering at a microscopic level. Whilst doing this, they also filter out any water from the diesel fuel, maintaining a high level of protection for the engine. Not only do the filters provide optimum protection, but they also ensure the ability to maintain a controlled and precise flow of fuel to the engine; the perfect conditions for effortless performance.
As with all other genuine Jaguar parts and accessories, Jaguar fuel filters are subjected to a barrage of tests such as Durability Testing, Corrosion Testing, and Pressure Cycle Testing. From a safety point of view, genuine fuel filters are also closely monitored during Crash Testing.
OIL FILTERS - THE PRICE OF UNFILTERED OIL
A genuine Jaguar oil filter is designed to provide full-flow filtration of the engine oil. The filtered oil is vital to lubricate and prevent wear to internal moving engine components such as the crankshaft and camshafts, making it absolutely crucial for engine function and durability.
There is the risk that the use of a non-representative oil filter not meeting Jaguar standards and specifications could lead to substantial vehicle problems. Some of the major issues that might occur include:
- A filter blocks too quickly; this may cause an emergency bypass valve to open which supplies unfiltered oil to the engine that could damage engine components.
- Not to standard filtration allows too many or too large particles to pass through, increasing engine wear and increasing emissions output.
- A filter element bursts or breaks up due to the lack of ability to handle engine oil running at a high temperature, potentially leading to engine failure.
- Poor material and tolerances could compromise sealing ability. A failure to seal may lead to engine failure through unfiltered oil or low oil pressure.
- Not meeting the specified service interval
To reach a 'micron' level of filtration, genuine Jaguar oil filters use the highest standard of materials and technology. As an example, the new generation of AJ-V8 and AJ-V6 engines in the Jaguar XF have adopted the use of a glass fibre media as opposed to paper to provide superior filtration efficiency.
